How does thermal deburring work?
In thermal deburring or TEM deburring (Thermal Energy Machining), thin, protruding burrs are removed with the aid of explosive combustion. A mixture of oxygen and hydrogen, natural gas or methane is fed into a hermetically sealed deburring chamber and then electrically ignited (oxyhydrogen reaction). This produces temperatures of 2,500 to 3,500 °C, which, together with the remaining oxygen, initiate the combustion of the burr.
The particular benefit of this process is that even hard-to-reach places such as cavities or the intersections of two holes in the component are completely deburred. In the case of fluid- or air-carrying components, system failures can thus be avoided, since there are no longer any burrs that could come loose.
